Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. (WFHR, WIRI) – The Spring Primary Election is coming up on February 18th for State Superintendent of Public Instruction and some local races. The candidates on the ballot for State Superintendent include: Jeff Wright, Brittany Kinser, and Jill Underly (incumbent). The Village of Port Edwards will have a primary election to narrow down the race to two candidates. In Rome, there are two races on the ballot. Rome Town Board Chairperson and Rome Town Board Supervisor.
In Port Edwards, those running for the position of Village President include: Betsy Mancl (incumbent), Matthew Fletcher, and Erik Saylor.
In Rome, the people running for Town Board Chairperson include: Carl Hasdal, Philip McLaughlin, and Lori Djumadi. Those running for the position of Town Board Supervisor include: Mark Samelstad, Tim Reppen, Vito Giardino, Daniel Minter, and Jacki Koll.
The ballots initially mailed out for the primary election in Rome have an error on them. According to a release from the Town of Rome Clerk, Wendy Newsom, the first batch of ballots sent out state VOTE FOR 1 in the section for Town Board Supervisor. It should state, VOTE FOR NOT MORE THAN 2.
On February 4th, the Town sent out new ballots with the correct instructions. The new ballot will say TYPE B on the ballot below the Ward numbers. You can discard the initial ballot you received and only fill out the ballot that states TYPE B. If you’ve already filled out the first ballot and sent it back, it will be processed on Election day. If both ballots are returned, the ballot with TYPE B will be counted and the other ballot will be rejected. You can reach out if you have questions to the Town of Rome Clerk Wendy Newsom.
You can cast your ballot by voting in-person absentee for the Spring Primary Election at the Rome Town Clerk’s Office. In-person absentee voting will be available from February 4-14, 2025. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 4:00PM.
