Undefeated Madison College men’s soccer program advances to NJCAA Championships for first time ever
Madison College is one of two undefeated programs left in NJCAA Division 2 this season.
MADISON, Wis. (WMDX) – For the first time ever, Madison College is heading to the NJCAA National Tournament in men’s soccer.
The WolfPack (18-0-1) defeated Triton College to win its first-ever Region 4 championship and move on to the national championship event, which begins on Nov. 16.
Madison College did not allow a point in any of its three matches in the Region 4 Division II Tournament.
“It’s pretty special to make it 19 matches into a college season and not have a loss,” Logan Fye, Madison College head soccer coach, said. “This program’s been around a long time, and in my opinion it’s been a long time coming for this program to make it this far.”
Fye, whose coaching staff was named the Region 4 Coaching Staff of the Year, said that he’s excited for the opportunity to play for something more.
“We’re going down there with a point to prove,” Fye said. “A 9-seed coming out of Region 4, which I think is the deepest region in the country, is a little bit disrespectful.”
Only one other team in the championship field has as many or more wins as Madison College: Top-seeded Phoenix College, which is ranked #1 in the NJCAA Division II Poll. The WolfPack are ranked 12th.
The NJCAA Tournament begins with group play on Sunday, Nov. 16. Madison College will take on #4 CCBC Essex at 5:30 p.m. Then on Monday, the WolfPack face #5 Northeast Community College at 5:30 p.m.
If Madison College advances from Group D, the semifinals would be held on Thursday, Nov. 20. The national championship is on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 4 p.m.
