WISCONSIN (CIVIC MEDIA) – Sara Rodriguez, Wisconsin’s Democratic Lieutenant Governor, has launched her campaign for the governor’s seat in 2026 following Governor Tony Evers’ announcement that he will not run for a third term.

Lt. Gov. Rodriguez posted a video announcing her bid, promising that she will oppose the Trump Administration’s tariffs, flip the Wisconsin’s Legislature to a Democratic majority, and expand Medicaid in the state if elected.

Lt. Gov. Rodriguez graduated with a master’s degrees in public health and nursing from John Hopkins University. She worked for a hospital in Baltimore, MD and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) before returning to Wisconsin to assume the role of Vice President of Population Health and Integrated Care Management, one of the largest healthcare systems in the Midwest.

She was elected as Wisconsin’s 46th Lieutenant Governor on November 8, 2022, and was sworn in January 3, 2023. Lt. Gov. Rodriguez is the first Democrat to join the gubernatorial race; she is currently slated to run against Republican candidates Josh Schoemann and Bill Berrien.

Her bid comes a day after Gov. Evers shared that he will not run for a third term. Senators, representatives, and officials around the state shared their thoughts and feelings following the announcement.
