Oshkosh Seeks Public Input and Applications for New Fire Chief

OSHKOSH, WI- (WISS) – The City of Oshkosh is currently recruiting candidates for Fire Chief following the resignation of Mike Stanley. The deadline for applications is Sunday, March 2, 2025.

In the meantime, The Police and Fire Commission, a citizen board tasked with selecting the new fire chief, is conducting a survey to find out what residents and city employees want in their fire chief. 

The feedback survey is available through Polco, the city’s civic engagement tool. The survey is available at https://polco.us/sgc32z.

Information about the job opening can be found is available here. Application materials will be received online via the City of Oshkosh Human Resources employment website, located under the “How do I?” drop-down menu on the city’s website, https://www.oshkoshwi.gov

Interviews will be conducted in late March and early April. The Police and Fire Commission plans to hear from three additional panels of interviewers representing diverse and pertinent backgrounds. Those panels will include a Community Panel, a Technical/Peer Panel, and an Employee Panel.

 As part of the selection process, the city will hold a Meet and Greet, where citizens and the general public will be able to meet the selected finalists, ask them questions and provide feedback to the Police and Fire Commission. Final details regarding the date and location of the Meet and Greet will be posted when solidified.

The Police and Fire Commission is looking for a candidate who can start in June or July.

Former Fire Chief Stanley left Oshkosh to return to Colorado, where he will be the Deputy Fire Chief in Greeley. His last day was January 29th.
